Larkspur builds automotive parts on three plants in Colorado and Kansas and scheduled all of it from one spreadsheet that one person understood. The plant manager did not want software. He wanted to stop being called at eleven at night.
Discovery was two shifts on the floor at the Pueblo plant. The number on the brief was changeovers per week and the hours they cost. The pilot ran on one line for thirty days with the plant manager as the person who would say pass or fail.
When it passed, the commercial conversation was with the CFO, and it was about the number, not the feature list. The plan had the signature date on it from the second draft, and that was the date it was signed.
